Something Happens!
Something Happens 2026
Something Happens are one of Ireland’s most beloved and enduring pop-rock bands, whose infectious songs and high-energy live shows have made them legends of the Irish music scene since the late 1980s. Formed in Dublin, the classic lineup — Tom Dunne (vocals), Ray Harman (guitar), Alan Byrne (bass) and Eamonn Ryan (drums) — built a reputation for hook-laden songwriting and live performances that crackled with energy and charm.
Emerging from the vibrant Irish indie scene of the mid-80s, Something Happens quickly gained a devoted following thanks to their jangly guitar pop sensibilities, lyrical wit and dynamic stage presence. Their earliest recordings, including the live EP I Know Ray Harman, captured the band’s raw on-stage power and set the tone for the gripping live shows that would become their trademark.
Their debut studio album, Been There, Seen That, Done That, released in 1988 on Virgin Records, featured fan-favourites like “Forget Georgia”, “Burn Clear” and sun-soaked tracks such as “Beach” and “Tall Girls Club” — songs still adored by fans decades on. But it was their 1990 masterpiece Stuck Together With God’s Glue that truly cemented their place in Irish pop-rock history. The album reached number one in Ireland and spawned some of the band’s most enduring anthems.
Among these, “Parachute” remains a perennial crowd-pleaser — a song that, more than 30 years on, still ignites audiences with its irresistible melody and emotional pull. Another standout from this era, “Hello Hello”, encapsulates the band’s knack for crafting memorable hooks and feel-good energy that translate brilliantly in live settings.
While international superstardom proved elusive, Something Happens never lost their ability to connect with audiences at home and abroad. Throughout their peak years they toured extensively, refining their craft on stage and winning acclaim for their vibrant live shows. Even when record label changes and industry setbacks arose, the band’s spirit and connection with fans never waned.
Since the mid-90s, the band have performed intermittently, delighting generations of fans with reunion gigs and festival appearances that tap into nostalgia while showcasing the timeless quality of their music. Their live performances are often described as joyous celebrations — lively, spontaneous and packed with sing-along moments. At festivals like Night and Day Festival, they’ve shown that even songs written over three decades ago still resonate powerfully with audiences, closing sets to rapturous cheers and proving their music hasn’t lost an ounce of its punch.
Tom Dunne’s own charismatic stage presence — the wisecracking frontman with a voice both distinctive and emotive — adds another layer to their live appeal, and fans old and new are drawn to the warm camaraderie the band radiate on stage.
For anyone heading to their upcoming Irish gig, expect a night of classic tunes, lively interaction, and the kind of genuine, heartfelt performance that has kept Something Happens a cherished part of Ireland’s musical tapestry for nearly four decades.
