It is rare for a band to create such hype across the board, even rarer for an Irish band to accomplish the feat. However, for Kopek, such comments continue to come with such regularity you can set you next fix by it.
The Irish trio has a history that stretches back a decade, but it is the past six months that has finally quashed any lingering doubts that superstardom beckons.
What began as a few weeks gigging in the US turned into six months of rock & roll touring across most states in America. Kopek played to over 150,000 people, from major stadiums to small venues, as they toured with US giants including Hinder, Stone Temple Pilots, Papa Roach, Cage The Elephant, and Buckcherry, as well as at major radio festivals.
The band’s debut US single ‘Cocaine Chest Pains’ was released in January and was a Top 25 hit on the Active Rock chart, and achieved Top 30 at Mainstream Rock. In April it was released in Canada, charting at Number 13 and rising.
Kopek’s second US single, ‘Love Is Dead’, was released last month, claiming the Highest Entry spot at Radio on Impact date 7th June. It has now climbed into the Top 50 and is expected to go top 10. Their third single, ‘Floridian’, is scheduled for release in January 2012.
Europe, Australia and South-East Asia are also taking notice, with Norway and Germany next on the radar for release by August. Top Norwegian television and radio DJ Asbjørn Slettemark discovered Kopek on the web and aired their material on Norway’s biggest music television and radio network causing huge buzz. A tour is scheduled for the autumn. And Kerrang (Spain) have named Kopek in their Top 15 Bands To Watch In 2011.
Television and film licensing is also calling with Sky Sports using ‘Bring It On Home’ for a World Cup montage, US/Canadian television show Degrassi featuring ‘Sin City’, and UFC licensing a number tracks for various fight montages. WWE, CBS, ABC, MTV, Paramount Films, and THQ Gaming have all confirmed songs for various forthcoming productions.
In short, Kopek is grabbing the rock & roll world by its throat. Radio stations are falling over themselves to air their music, fans are driving seven hours to see them play, and critics are hailing them as the soon-to-be biggest rock band of their generation…
