The recording duties would be given to Howard Bilerman at his renown ‘Hotel2Tango’ studio, As well as recording and playing on Arcade Fires Breakthrough record ‘Funeral’ Howard has worked his magic with an array of great artists including Wolf Parade, God Speed you Black emperor, British sea power to name but a few.

Fred had spent nearly a year laying low writing and producing the tracks, this would be they’re first time ever recording in a studio in the traditional sense. After the release of ‘Go God Go’ in 2008 with it’s string of Indie-poptastic hits ('Skyscrapers', 'Running'. “….There's no resisting this stuff unless you're a tone-deaf, stone-hearted, know nothing… , Blissed out, loved-up and goddamn down and out funky, Fred we love you…” Say's the NME

“Fred New Single”
‘Battles’ is the first new music to be released by FRED since their highly acclaimed ‘Leaving My Empire’ album.

Already described by Today FM’s KC as “an absolute cracker”, the track combines Funk Horns from the 70s and Motown Grooves from the 60s, but is also brought right up to date by FRED’s trademark alt-pop sound of vocal and melodic hooks, and an incessant rhythm that seems to push the song right out of the speakers at you.

Mostly recorded during the sessions for ‘Leaving My Empire’, Bass enigma Jamin takes up the story – “We laid all the groundwork for this track in Hotel2Tango Studios in Montreal but just never got to finish it off, so obviously it wasn’t a contender for the album. This happened with a couple of tracks, but Battles was the one that we all really liked and regretted not completing, so now that we are beginning to think about recording new material, it didn’t make sense to leave this track unfinished before moving on to newer songs.”

The single release is a double A-side

with a live

version of 'Running', one of FRED’s biggest radio hits from their ‘Go God Go’ album. It was recorded in front of a packed Cork Opera House. It captures not only the energy and enthusiasm of FRED and their accompanying brass and string sections but also that of the sold-out audience.

You can watch the performance at the following URL – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdb_EZliBJI

Both tracks will be available to download for free from www.fredtheband.com from April 1st.
