“Lovely new Cat power-esque track” (Nialler9)
“one of the most wonderful voices in Irish contemporary music – and its husky tones are used to mournful perfection on her latest single, Come On.” (Irish Times)
“The sexiest voice in Irish music is back, and The Believer is the best thing she’s ever done.” (Hot Press)
Cat Dowling writes beautifully dark pop songs. Her voice has been described as one
of the most wonderful and evocative in Irish contemporary music. Her husky and
achingly intimate vocals will draw you in from the outset.
The acclaimed Irish singer, songwriter and performer previously fronted Babelfish
and Alphastates. In 2010 she felt the need to write under her own guise, the end result
is Cat’s beguiling new album, “The Believer”. If you’re looking for a mixture of finely
tuned song-craft, deftly honed lyrics and gently spun music then look no further.
The first (and title) track is about saving innocence and its beauty (“some people
have a charming honesty, and if you’re lucky you hold on to elements of that”),
ile the final track, “Sing You To Sleep” is a love song of a slightly different kind –
it’s a lullaby for her daughter. In between are nine invigorating, dreamy yet coherent
songs that travel from joy to despair, each emotion caught in freeze-frame moments
that allow as much insight into personal matters as their creator wishes.
Dowling has recently signed a US and Worldwide Publishing Deal. In the past, her
songs have appeared on high-profile US dramas including CSI Miami, The Gate, MTV
LA as well as a number of independent European and Irish Movies and dramas.
